Kingussie, in the Highlands of Scotland
-
Sitting in the Spey Valley, Kingussie sits around
11 miles South of Aviemore.
-
Kingussie is within the boundaries of the Cairngorm
National Park.
- The Ruthven Barracks sits just outside Kingussie, it was originally
built in 1229. By 1371 Ruthven Castle was home to Alexander Stewart,
Lord of Badenoch, and younger son of Robert II. "The Wolf
of Badenoch" is best known for destroying Elgin Cathedral,
and much of Elgin in 1390.
- Facilities in Kingussie include the Highland Folk Museum, The
Highland Wildlife Park, The war Memorial and gardens and several
hotels and excellent guest houses. Other
local facilities include the Cairngorm Mountain (and the Cairngorm
Mountain Railway), Aviemore and the much improved Aviemore Highland
Resort
- Golf has been played at Kingussie since 1891. In 1908 Kingussie
sought the advice of Harry Vardon and extended the course to 18
holes. While some improvements and modifications have been made
the course is still very much as it was - Highland Golf at its
very best! Aviemore's much awaited international
golf course is now complete, providing an extra course to
the Spey Valley area.
- Kingussie is known as Monarch Of The Glen country. Playing host
to Monarch of the Glen, the hit BBC TV series produced by Ecosse
Films, has, for the past six years, been filmed in Badenoch.
- The Kingussie caravans are situated next to the Kingussie Golf
Course. What a perfect location for the golfer and outdoor enthusiast!
